I think you are talking about acoustic guitar (steel string). Normally the thinner one is come with build in PICK-UP. Thats you can see a hole at the back, its used to connect with the amp. It is because if you compare with the thicker one, of course the thicker one is better and louder sound. The different is the bigger side of 音箱 have louder sound. Therefore the thinner one always come with PICK-UP for you to connect with th amp to make a louder sound. Remember the thicker one also come with normal and with PICK-UP ga la...... ok???
Just one more thing, i suggest the beginner to use classical guitar (nylon string). Its better for your finger and easier to play. ok?? hopes can help U la!! haha....
